Last item for this week: We drove to Edinbburgh and made up a tuneful and topical call along the way. We stayed with Stuart Sneeeky. We played very badly in our first two games against Shrub (a gang of good players from Oxford), and Dynamo hamsters. It was pretty bad. I dropped a pull as well as 3 or 4 other discs. Jimmer had a colision with a hamster and a wall and did in his knee so that he left the tournament for good. Sorry, J! The next game was much better, as we lost to Blue Arse Flies with dignity, playing well, just not well enough. Then we played spiffingly to take Mud Culture convincingly for the last game of Saturday. Highlights of Saturday's play include BAF beating the pants off Shrub, top seeds in the pool. Merrick was really pumped for the match, and just did everything for BAF end-to-end, D-ing and scoring in the air repeatedly against Lee and Dell (of the Monks). A great game to watch. A good chinese meal, a good party and the late show of Star Wars for some SBs made SAt night a good one. See Star Wars. Sunday 9:00 AM against Sneeekys. Our team play was getting better and better and we had a really good match, eventually winning in Sudden DEath. A Key point block by Graham and a layout D by me kept things interesting in the last 2 points. Then we played Phat 'Eds in the lovely, big, wooden-floored gym, and lost by a few. I think we played better Ultimate than them most of the time, but we couldn't score! The large size of the hall lead us to throw just a bit big... and at least 6 open scoring opportunities were met with throws that were just too high, or too far, or just out. Frustrating, because we were really playing as a team, and because our D was much better than theirs. We met the Hamsters again and this time gave them the game we should have done yesterday. Lost in sudden death, but we played good, TEAM ultimate. Same again against Lurkers, lost in sudden death despite great, energetic play and tight D. I really liked how team-oriented our play was after our disasterous beginning. No one really played a starring role, we did it TOGETHER. Dora got free for the score again and again. There was Solid cutting and handling all weekend from Natalie, Nathan, Ico, Mindy, and Francis. After the first three games we did much better at stacking far from the disc and clearing out quickly. Everybody scored, I think. The event was really well organized and the venue was good. Spirit was excellent in every game we played and was noticaebly good in the final between UTI (who, it should be noted, made it to the final with a woman playing as much as anyone else) and Druids. The streaker was skinny but still good looking, despite the paper bag over his head. Sneeekys were great hosts and Edinburgh was of course beautiful. It took us only seven hours to drive home (empty roads) including a lovely, hour-long stop in Durham for pizza and sightseeing. Mindy and I may never play indoor Ultimate again. It's been fun. Thanks SB! Oh, we came in 16th in the country in indoor Ultimate Frisbee. Something to proud of, I think! We also played more women more of the time than any other club there. Go mixed-gender Strange! See you outdoors! Luke >-`o_ o~~~ Only Connect.
