The top 16 teams qualify for Nationals and therefore need to enter
ASAP. MMJanitors are waiting to take any avalable slots, and therefore
you need to beat them to your place. Send your entries to Graham as
detailed below. Any slot not filled by reciept of a check by next
monday is under threat from the hordes in Leeds.
Seeding is based on Nationals other than Catch is moved up to 3rd
place based on the ruling given before T4 (go to britdisc archives to
refresh your memory) by the addition of 220.67 points. Hence Chevron
move down to 4th, etc. Fusion remain seeded 9th. etc.
Format will be as per a 16 team tour event. 2 pools of 4 to make the top 8 group on Saturday, and 2 groups of 4 to make the 9-16 group. Sunday will be 1-4 KO. 5-12 KO, and 13-16 pool. The rest you know.

The Tournament venue, Coldhams Common, Whitehill Rd,
is located in Northeast Cambridge, between the Abbey swimming pool
and the railway line. Traffic in central Cambridge
is terrible, so don't come through the centre.
For those of you who are coming to Cambridge on Friday night, there will be at
least a few people gathering at the Maypole Pub on Park Street.
A streetmap can be found here.
To drive there go down Victoria Avenue, right onto Jesus
Lane, right onto Park St and park in the multistorey.
DIRECTIONS FOR COLDHAM'S COMMON
BY CAR
FROM NORTH AND WEST:
Come on the A14. Stick in the left hand lane, i.e.
REMAIN on the A14 towards Newmarket and Felixstowe;
then, see directions from south (exit on B1047)
FROM SOUTH (M11):
Get off M11 at Juction 14 and keep to the left to end up on the A14 East
(towards Newmarket)
About 5 minutes later take the exit onto B1047 over the bridge towards
Cambridge and Fen Ditton (called Horningsea Lane then becomes Ditton Lane).
Take a RIGHT at the T-junction traffic lights at the end of this road onto
Newmarket Rd.
After the first roundabout take your THIRD LEFT onto Whitehill Rd.
Lookout for a sign to Abbey Pool and Coldhams Common pointing RIGHT.
Turn right into there, park , and look for the signs to the sports ground.
|
BY TRAIN
From Cambridge railway station, it's approx. 20mins walk.
Take the footbridge across the railway line
Take left onto Charles St.
Make a right dog's-leg onto Cockburn St.
Cross Mill Road onto Sedgwick St.
Keep to left of road, Sedgwick St. becomes Cromwell Rd.
Follow bike path through Coldham's Common towards Abbey Swimming Pool
Follow signs to Sport's Grounds
Alternatively, take a taxi and ask for Abbey Swimming Pool/Sports Grounds
on Coldhams Common -probably about #5 a ride
BY PLANE (to Cambridge airport)
Out of the airport, turn left on Newmarket Rd.
then see directions by car.

Accommodation
Unfortunately there is no college accommodation available
due to conferences and an alumni weekend. There are two sites with
some B and B's and guesthouses on them and I have listed the ones
that are within walking distance of the fields and or the city
centre. We have limited floorspace available, this will be
allocated on the basis of who needs it (i.e. student teams, teams
travelling from further away), who replies first and who has put
Strange Blue up in the past. Please sort out your accommodation
soon as the alumni weekend may put pressure on accommodation.
Reasonably comprehensive accommodation guides are available at:
http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/leisure/acc00.htm
http://www.adhocity.com/cambridge/tnt/wheretostay/.
On the
http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/leisure/acc00.htm
website reasonable
locations for the city centre and/or the pitches (which are about a 25 min
walk from each other) are:
Guest houses under 25 pounds:
Page 1, Perne Rd
Page 2, Newmarket Rd, Tenison Rd
B and B's under 25:
Page 1, St Paul's Rd, Vinery Rd, St Barnabas Rd.
Page 2, Warkworth St
Page 2, Mawson Rd
Guest house under 35:
Page 1, Tenison Rd.
Page 2, Warkworth Terrace
B and B's under 35:
Perne Rd.
Covent Garden.
On the
http://www.adhocity.com/cambridge/tnt/wheretostay/bedbreakfast/.
website the B and B's close to either the pitches or the
centre of town are on:
Warkworth St
Vinery Rd (close to pitches)
St Paul's Rd
Mawson Rd
Lensfield Rd
Natal Rd
St Barnabas Rd (between pitches and town)
Gwydir St (between pitches and town)
Rustat Road
Perne Road
St Andrews Rd
(We don't know how much duplication there is between these two sites.)
|
Catering
There will be a barbeque on field.
There is a
Sainsbury's within walking distance. Hot drink vending machines
can be found in Abbey Pool. By the way, there is
no pavillion/bar on site, so bring rain gear and your own beer if
you want it.
Social events
We've hired the back part of the Fort St George for Saturday evening.
It's on Midsummer Common, on the river bank, near to Victoria Way.
(Just above the Strawberry on the
map).
The BUF AGM will take place on Saturday evening. A room in
Darwin College has been booked and we'll have directions/maps
available at the weekend.

Results
From Dora Kemp - dak12 @@@ cam.ac.uk
Hi all
The BUF Nationals were held in Cambridge this weekend under brilliant
sunshine (for a day and a half). Graham and I would like to thank everyone
who helped out to make the last-minute organization a success: David Mackay
for doing the website and Strange Blue for helping out with the BBQ, tents
and all the other various jobs.
We would also like to thank Chris Hughes for his help with the Nationals and
all his hard work organizing the Tour throughout the year.
Finally we would also like to acknowledge the help and support we received
from the Cambridge City Council and Abbey Pool.
Catch 22 and UTI provided a brilliant final. Unfortunately Guy Bowles'
injury was quite a bad break in one bone in his wrist but it has now been
reset by the doctors at Addenbrookes and he will find out today if surgery
is needed.
Here are the results:
1. UTI
2. Catch 22
3. Doughboy
4. Chevy
5. Druids (plate)
6. Red
7. Fusion
8. Blue Arse Flies
9. Deep South Mentality
10. Hammerage
11. Headrush
12. Strange Blue
13. Fever (spoon)
14. Point Blank
15. Sharks
16. Mild Mannered Janitors
Spirit - Fusion
MVP of the Final (by a large unbiased majority) - Graham Fletcher
Thanks for coming and thanks to those people who helped us carrying stuff to
and from the pitches. See you in Leicester.

Annual General Meeting of the British Ultimate Federation
The BUF AGM will be held at 8:30pm on Saturday 23rd September in the Old
Library, Darwin College, Cambridge. An agenda plus details of the motions
are attached below.
We would encourage all teams to send a representative. To aid this, we will
allow teams not playing at the National Finals to nominate a proxy to
represent them provided they inform us in advance.
The two main motions which are being tabled would introduce changes to the
format of the Tour and Nationals. We would therefore urge all the teams
taking part in the National Finals to send at least one representative
(maximum is two). In light of the protracted debate which took place at last
years AGM we will be running a tight schedule which must finish at 10pm as
that is when our booking of the Old Library finishes.
Darwin is on the South side of Silver Street, just east of Queens Road. If
you wish to park nearby, try Silver Street; the nearest reliable parking
place is a car park off Barton Road (5 minutes walk South of Darwin).

One item for the agenda is Indoor Nationals and Tour 2001.
Chris said:
In probably another futile attempt to avoid the organisational chaos
of this year I will be attempting (maybe even for the AGM) to start
sorting out the indoor events and the tour next year. So if you are
interested in hosting any of the following events email me (don't
phone - I'll forget - definitely don't mention it in passing at a
tournament!). You will need to be especially quick for indoor
Nationals as I am likely to book Cheltenham in the next two weeks if I
don't get a response.
Let me know location of venue, approximate size, and general facilities. Please say which events you are interested (more than one is good! - replies of 'any' will also go down very well) Remember you not only have to worry about where you are going to put all the players during the day, but also what you are going to do with over night as well (if you wish to take that last statement out of context, feel free to do so - just keep your fantasies to yourself - I'm sure you can find a more 'specialised' mail list to suit your tastes).
Events:
Indoor qualifiers - a good spread throughout the country (Feb / Mar 2001)
Indoor Nationals (Mar 2001)
T1 April 2001
T2 May 2001
T3 June-ish 2001
T4 July 2001
BUF Open (Anyone fancy a big event - Nolan?) August / September / Whenever 2001
BUF Nationals September 2001
There are also the following events that need organising, and I can pass on interest to the relevant co-ordinator
Student events (indoors / outdoors/ regional teams)
Coed events (at least 3 tours + nationals)
Womens events (Indoors and outdoors)
I look forward to a deluge of emails

PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE BUF TOUR AND NATIONALS STRUCTURE
Full details of the proposed changes can be found at
http://www.ultimateweb.co.uk/buf/tour2001.htm
Please read them! Below is a brief summary...........
The Tour:-
The proposal puts forward a split in the tour events to generate an A tour
and B tour. After the 1st event (which will remain an open format) the tour
will split with 12 teams in the A tour, and the rest in the B tour. There
will be promotion and relegation of two teams after each event, from T2
onwards.
The scoring system will progress from winners of the A event down through to
the last placed team, as in the present system.
The system does little more than emphasise a split already present in the
tour structure, and remove the requirement of large venues. The A and B Tour
may still occur in the same location when the facilities are suitable, but
allows the ability to split the events should requirement dictate it. This
will have very little effect on the majority of teams other than improve the
standards of venue, and the quality of tournament at their level.
Nationals:-
The proposal puts Nationals as a cup type event with a 16 team knock-out,
with seeding based on the tour. This will provide the test of teams to
perform on the day, when required. It allows a more open format where
seeding is not important allowing teams to recover from bad results in the
tour. It covers the top 16 so that those teams involved in promotion &
relegation are not disadvantaged.
At this stage it does not significantly reduce the number of quality games
for the top teams, but allows the weaker teams to improve knowing that they
can get a similar improvement in results. The format also allows the event
to held in smaller venues, and later in the season without light becoming an
issue. This allows expansion of the season, with the possibility of holding
more tour or mixed tour events, yet still having Nationals as the curtain
call. Nationals would still be used as qualification for BUF invited events,
but the BUF will reserve the right to invite teams who are deemed suitable
if required.
