From: Robert Hadfield Mon 26/2/01 Subject: [camdisc] Indoor regionals report Last weekend we sent three teams to the indoor regionals in Brixton - even more than the hosts (Angels) could muster.. SB3 The third team (Ben, Fred, Graham, Stef, Chris, Fanny, Luke (brother of Jon), Bev, Bave E), captained with indefatiguable optimism by Ben battled bravely throughout and took points off all of their opponents - apart from SB1 (but then they beat us in their call). Final placing: 10th (out of 10) but well done guys. SB3 The second team featured Jon, Sandro, Sander, Yale, Brian, Dora, Dave Croft, Clo and Tina (Sunday). On Saturday they had a tough pool (Angels 1, Nightfever, Playthings, Kings) - their closest match was against Kings (featuring ex-SB Steve and Laura) which they lost narrowly 6_8. On saturday night the SB2 partnership of Jon and Clo were victorious in the 3 pint challenge in under 19 seconds (the party, at the 'Brixtonian' salsa club, also featured cereal box limbo (resulting in some girl splitting her leather trousers) and finished with a snowball fight). On sunday, with heroic layouts from captain Jon, great endzone catches from Dave C and the unique 'complicite' between Clo and Tina, SB2 defeated Angels2 7_1, were trounced by Playthings a second time and defeated Kings (minus Steve) 10_9. Final placing 7th. SB1 The first team comprised the core of the student team (Paul, Martin, Dave Cox, Rob (minus beard), James, Rich, Marc (Sunday)) plus Graham and Sasha. After defeating Angels 2 in our first game we were held 4_4 in the second by Lurkers (crafty old players + small pitch = considerable frustration). Crisis was averted as we raised the intensity and defeated Hammerage 5_4 in the next game (some fabulous layout D from Sasha + some one rather heated call dispute). The final game of the day was SB3. On sunday we beat Kings 11-5. In the semis we thoroughly outplayed Angels 1 winning 11_4 (a memorable moment being an unfeasible large leap from yours truly to reach Sasha's ever-rising endzone disc). The final against Hammerage promised to be a tough encounter (30 mins on a larger pitch against a bigger squad eager for revenge). In spite of Sasha's absence our furious D was too much for them (multiple layouts from Paul, Marc and Rich). We pulled a couple of points ahead and held the lead for the duration, winning 12_10 which was sweet indeed. Final Placing: 1st. So it was a great tournament (the Angels were as always excellent hosts). Thanks to everyone for turning out. Rob. (with assistance from Clo, Fred, Yale and Ben).
