For my Diplom thesis (roughly the equivalent of an MSc, but with one full year of thesis work), I developed a statistical simulation of electrons penetrating the surface of biological tissue stained with heavy metal ions in the vacuum chamber of a scanning electron microscope. The result was, as far as I know, the first characterisation of a Point Spread Function of the scanning electron microscope for biological imaging.

This paper is a considerably shortened version of my Diploma Thesis in Physics, at the University of Heidelberg and the Max Planck Institute for medical research. The entire thesis can be found here.
