Liquid Lengths

David J.C. MacKay

The first figure shows the Latent heat of vaporization of 17 assorted liquids versus their surface tensions. The latent heat has been rescaled by the density of each liquid to give an energy per unit volume. The surface tension is an energy per unit area.
Raw data from the Science Data Book, edited by R.M. Tennent, published by Oliver and Boyd. (The best value-for-money data book ever!)
The second image shows the ratio of these two quantities, which is a length that is an intrinsic property of the liquid. All lengths are shown in Angstroms.
